At SABIS® International School – Runda, we consider the school as a dynamic community. Administrators, teachers, and students are all important members of this community. Learning is the result of a team effort.
Everyone in a SABIS® Network school has a job to do; everyone is accountable. Administrators, students, and staff "self-audit" in order to discover and correct errors. It is teamwork that allows every team member to reach heights that would be more difficult to reach individually.
Like SABIS® Network schools around the world, SABIS® International School – Runda is a highly academic, non-selective, co-educational, English-medium, independent school catering for the complete individual.
SABIS® International School – Runda provides top-quality education to children of different races, nationalities, and backgrounds. At SABIS® International School – Runda, we believe we can help students perform to the best of their abilities, earn admission to the most competitive universities, and be successful in their careers. SABIS® International School – Runda develops students' academic competencies, learning techniques, interpersonal skills, and personalities in addition to instilling high ethical, moral, and civic values. Additionally, the multicultural setting of the school helps students develop a better understanding of world cultures.
SABIS® International School – Runda students follow a comprehensive, international curriculum that prepares them for university and a life of continuous learning. The globally-recognized curriculum taught at SABIS® International School – Runda prepares them for a range of external examinations including British IGCSEs and A Levels as well as U.S. Advanced Placement® (AP®) examinations.
Although all courses are age-appropriate, students are encouraged to hold themselves to high standards from the very beginning. To support students in the achievement of high standards, they are assisted not only by the methods and support already mentioned, but also by the textbooks and workbooks prepared by the SABIS® Academic Development Division. These materials complement the courses studied and ensure that the concepts taught in class are fully mastered by the students.
The design and flexibility of the curriculum is such that the entry of new students may be accommodated at most levels during the academic year.
A high premium in time and effort is placed on the mastery of the two key subjects: English and mathematics.
English is the medium of instruction.
Mathematics is the prerequisite for the in-depth understanding of the natural sciences and related subjects.
A second language is stressed throughout the curriculum. From KG1, students study Kiswahili. French is also introduced as a third language at this stage.
All courses for students in SABIS® Network schools are clearly structured to enable students and teachers to know precisely what should be learned. Teachers teach one concept at a time using the SABIS Point System®, with each lesson alternating frequently between oral work, individual work, and group work, so that it is difficult for students to “switch off.”
Students engage in regular assessment using exams that teachers do not see in advance. Everyone in the school is accountable. Accordingly, students learn more in class and have more time for relaxation and fun after school.
Students who fall behind in their work are advised, motivated, helped, and coached until they catch up.
All courses at SABIS® International School – Runda are structured. A system of academic tracking - the SABIS® AMS, a computerized method of detecting gaps in knowledge - allows the administration to closely follow the progress of each individual. Gaps are pinpointed as soon as they form and efforts are focused on eliminating them. Valuable time is saved and students develop a gap-free, cohesive body of knowledge.
The SABIS® Student Life Organization (SLO) at SABIS® International School – Runda works hand in hand with the faculty. Members of SLO are appointed by the administration for their competence rather than elected by the students based on popularity. SLO seeks to:
- Raise academic standards
- Promote high social and moral values
- Contribute to students' personal development
- Develop communication and management skills
- Involve students in organizing sports and athletic activities
